MacBook!

November 16th, 2007 · No Comments

I feel like a kid on Christmas! My new 17″ MacBook Pro finally came in and I’m loving it. I’m still sort of a Mac newb but I’m getting better with every key stroke :). As I’m writing this blog I’m waiting for Windoze to install through VMWare Fusion, below is a screen shot (Command+Shift+3 — not PrintScreen ;))

My Luck Finally Ran Out

November 11th, 2007 · No Comments

After great luck in Vegas and winning a poker tournament last weekend my hot streak once again burns out. I’m sitting on the top deck of the Argosy casino down on my luck and down on my money. On top of all this i head over to espn.com and find out the Buckeyes lose by a touchdown!! While waiting on the rest of my party to finish up I thought I’d brush up on my iPhone typing skills and post a blog instead of repeatedly cursing that blackjack dealer and Illinois in the same breath.

As good luck would have it we’re finally doing some kick ass flash stuff at work. I’ll have to post some links as soon a our work-in-progress demo is back to fully functioning mode. This may be a week or since my new MacBook Pro comes in on Wednsday!

That’s right a 17” MBP with a 2.4ghz dual core processor, 2gb of RAM and all the other bells and whistles. I’m really looking forward to Leopard and KeyNote ’08. I’m also extremely happy with Adobe’s custumer service people allowing me to convert my CS3 Master Collection over to Mac from Windoze. That would have been an expensive MacBook if it wasn’t for Amy, in my opinion the best employee Adobe has working for them.Well I guess I’m ready to show my face around the poker room again to see if everyone’s ready to go – if not – another blog coming your way 🙂

Waibel in the News

November 6th, 2007 · No Comments

Last Friday, my company was on the local news for helping West Carrollton Schools “Go Green”. Some of the highlights include a water usage decrease from 5 million gallons per year to just 150,000 gallons per year. We are saving them $350,000 per year on energy usage. In other news, I finally broke down and got an iPhone, which I’m using to post. This blog. I’ll post the youtube video of the news cast when I get a chance to hop on my computer.

Update: Here’s the video from YouTube…

Particles!!! FITC Hollywood – Day 3

October 23rd, 2007 · 1 Comment

Seb Lee-Delisle gave a great particle demonstration today at FITC (although he was somewhat still inebriated from the party last night). Seb shared his particle class with us, the same class used to create the great effects on his website pluginmedia.net.

Tonight is my last night in L.A. – I’ll be heading to Vegas in the morning for some No Limit Hold ‘Em action!!

During lunch today I decided to experiment with the class while I had some free time. This is what I came up with:

FITC Hollywood 2007 – Day 2

October 23rd, 2007 · No Comments

I’m currently in Los Angeles for the Flash In the Can Festival – a premiere Flash developer convention. The festivities kicked off on Sunday with an awesome Papervision 3D workshop by John Grden. He demonstrated an AIR application using PV3D, Flex, and Red5 to synchronize the fret and finger position on a virtual guitar to what he was actually playing on his real guitar. Over the course of the 8 hour workshop we did some pretty interesting stuff with PV3D including some sky boxes. I’ll have to post some of my experiments when I get some time to actually experiment.

Today, the actual festival kicked off with some great presentations including “Let’s talk about SWX” by Aral Balkan, “Designing Online Attractions” by Jarod Koff (FF0000.com) and a pretty informative one from the Red5 crew.

I capped the day off by heading to Venice to check out the hippies, street performers and the Pacific Ocean for the first time – it’s like a whole different world.

Tomorrow there is more FITC – I’m really looking forward to the particle demonstration, and then on Wednesday I head to Las Vegas!
